Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has directed the immediate renovation of the state secretariat complex following a fire outbreak that occurred on Monday.
During an early morning visit to the site on Tuesday, the governor assessed the level of damage and expressed relief that no lives were lost. He praised the swift intervention of the Rivers State Fire Service, whose prompt action prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Governor Fubara described the incident as a wake-up call, noting that the time had come for a comprehensive overhaul of the secretariat to ensure a safer and more conducive work environment for public servants.
He also commended the commitment of civil servants in the state, acknowledging their role in sustaining government operations despite the setback. “This is a wake-up call to begin full renovation of our secretariat immediately. I commend our fire service for their quick response and appreciate our civil servants for their dedication as we continue working to uplift Rivers people,” he said.
