Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially sworn in Benibo Anabraba as the new Secretary to the State Government, marking his first major appointment since returning to full governance after President Bola Tinubu lifted the six-month emergency rule on September 18.
Anabraba, a former Minority Leader in the Rivers State House of Assembly under the All Progressives Congress, previously served as Commissioner for Housing in the current administration. His appointment followed a screening by the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led faction of the State Assembly loyal to Governor Fubara.
Speaking during the ceremony, the governor described Anabraba’s elevation as a divine act, emphasizing the rarity and significance of the position.
“This appointment is nothing short of God’s grace,” Fubara said. “It’s a privilege to be chosen at such a defining moment to serve as the Secretary to the Government of Rivers State. This office carries great honour — one that must be guarded and executed with integrity.”
He urged the new SSG to serve with dignity, prioritize the interests of Rivers people, and leave behind a legacy of honour.
“When your time in office ends, let it be said that you served faithfully and responsibly,” the governor added. “That is the true mark of leadership.”
