Zamfara State Governor Lawal has approved the recruitment of 500 teachers following the completion of a thorough and transparent selection exercise conducted by the state’s Committee for Teacher Recruitment and Deployment.
According to Hon. Aliyu Mohammed Tutur, Chairman of the Zamfara State Civil Service Commission and Recruitment Committee, the recruitment process attracted 11,708 applicants through the state’s online portal. Out of these, 8,184 met the eligibility requirements and were screened. The candidates then participated in a Computer-Based Test under strict supervision, with 1,033 qualifying for the final oral interview after meeting the 40 per cent benchmark.
After careful evaluation by subject panelists, 500 candidates were recommended for appointment across the state. The recruitment focused on core subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Studies, Entrepreneurship, Agricultural Science, Home Economics, and Animal Husbandry.
Hon. Tutur highlighted the structured approach of the recruitment, which included the development of clear guidelines, online applications, rigorous credential verification, computer-based assessments, and a final merit-based selection emphasizing equity and quality.
The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology praised Governor Lawal for his steadfast commitment to revitalizing the education sector. The recruitment initiative, they noted, demonstrates a clear resolve to address the shortage of qualified teachers and improve the quality of education in public schools.
The committee confirmed that appointment letters for the newly recruited teachers would be issued soon. Deployment will prioritize rural and hard-to-reach areas, ensuring broader access to quality education across the state.
“This milestone reflects the governor’s dedication to education reform, promoting merit-based employment, enhancing teacher quality, and restoring public confidence in Zamfara’s education system,” Tutur stated.
