Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has expressed deep concern over the rising political tension in the state, noting that some individuals are already succumbing to extreme despair and pressure over the 2027 elections. Speaking during the 2025 Aro Day celebrations in Arochukwu, the Governor wondered why the next election cycle has become a source of such intense anxiety for many, even though the date is still quite distant.
Addressing the crowd, Otti made it clear that his current focus remains on governance rather than the next ballot. He pointed out that his administration still has a significant portion of its four-year mandate to fulfill, having only spent about thirty months in office so far. For him, the priority is delivering on the promises made to the people of Abia rather than joining the early scramble for re-election.
The Governor’s remarks, as monitored by Reports, suggest a high level of confidence in the progress made under his leadership. He noted that the political landscape in 2027 will likely be very different from his previous campaigns. Unlike the 2023 race, where he had to rely on manifestos and pledges to win over the electorate, he believes his record of service will speak for itself when the time eventually comes.
Otti emphasized that his confidence stems from tangible achievements across the state. He explained that while the 2023 campaign was built on selling a vision, the next outing will be defined by actual projects and visible improvements. By letting his work do the talking, the Governor believes the path to 2027 will be much smoother and less complicated than his previous political journeys.
Despite the early maneuvers by some political actors, Otti urged for calm and a shift in focus toward the present. He reiterated that there is still a long way to go in his current term, and his primary obligation remains to the citizens of Abia State who are looking for continued development and stable leadership.
