Governor Dauda Lawal has called on Islamic scholars across Zamfara State to intensify prayers for lasting peace and stability, emphasizing the crucial role of faith leaders in rebuilding the state’s social fabric.

Speaking during a meeting with the Ulamas Consultative Forum at the Government House in Gusau, Governor Lawal reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring normalcy and tackling insecurity through both practical action and spiritual support. The forum, led by Sheikh Umar Kanoma, provided an opportunity for a deep conversation on development challenges and new ways to strengthen the impact of religious preaching in shaping public perception and promoting progress in the state.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the Governor urged the Ulamas to remain steadfast in promoting peace, unity, and respect for the rule of law. He noted that religious leaders occupy a unique position in influencing the people and guiding them toward harmony and stability.

“Religious leaders are central to everything we do in Zamfara. They are the voice our people trust, and their influence is key to reshaping the narratives that affect our communities,” the Governor said. “That is why I continually appeal to the Ulama Council to use their platforms to preach peace and encourage obedience to the law. Only through collective effort and moral guidance can we achieve the peace we all seek.”

Governor Lawal acknowledged that while notable progress has been made in the fight against banditry, the journey toward complete peace is still ongoing. He pledged that his administration would not relent until Zamfara becomes fully secure and its people can live without fear.

“We have recorded meaningful successes, but our mission is far from over,” he said. “We will continue to push forward until peace is fully restored across the state. This is not a task for government alone  it requires the unity and prayers of everyone.”

The meeting ended on a note of shared hope, with both the Governor and the scholars reaffirming their commitment to working hand in hand for the peace and development of Zamfara.
