Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has formally sworn in the Katsina State Council of Emirates, calling the event a historic step toward strengthening collaboration between the state government and traditional institutions.
A statement from Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the Governor’s spokesperson, quoted Radda as saying, “This is a very important and historic occasion. Today will be remembered as a landmark day in the history of Katsina State, as we formally inaugurate the Katsina State Council of Emirates to deepen cooperation with our revered traditional institutions.”
The Governor announced that the Emir of Katsina will serve as Chairman of the Council, with the Emir of Daura as Co-Chairman. Membership includes prominent kingmakers from the Katsina Emirate Council—Kauran Katsina, Yandakan Katsina, Galadiman Katsina, Durbin Katsina, and Marusan Katsina—as well as leaders from the Daura Emirate Council, including the Galadima of Daura, Kauran Daura, Limamin Juma’a, Dansawai, and the Fada Babba of Daura.
Other members include the Secretary to the Government of the State, Ambassador Ahmed Rufai, Sardaunan Katsina; Ambassador Adamu Saeed Daura; and Hamza Abu Duwan, Madawakin Katsina. The Council also comprises representatives from business, religious, and youth groups, such as Dahiru Barau Mangal, Baba Buhari, Walin Daura, Sheikh Yakubu Musa Hassan, Sheikh Naziru Kofar Baru, and Abdulaziz Abdulaziz Malunfashi. Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Ida, Wazirin Katsina, was appointed Secretary, with Sada Salisu Danwairen Katsina serving as Assistant Secretary.
Governor Radda explained that the Council’s role will be to advise the state government on matters relating to Islamic law, customary law, culture, chieftaincy affairs, and inter-communal relations. The Council will also provide guidance on public order, peace, and security when needed.
“The Council will support government efforts in community development, assist tax authorities, promote environmental protection and forest conservation, supervise sanitation activities, and help preserve our rich cultural heritage and traditional values,” the Governor added.
Radda congratulated all members, praying that Almighty Allah guides them in fulfilling their duties for the progress, peace, and harmony of Katsina State.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by key government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government Abdullahi Garba Faskari, Chief Judge Justice Musa Abubakar Danladi, Chief of Staff Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir, Principal Private Secretary Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji, and members of the Katsina State Executive Council.
