MACBAN Slams Plateau Killings, Warns Leaders Against Hate Speech

Zoyols News

The persistent cycle of violence in Plateau State has once again sparked a call for urgent intervention and a shift in public discourse. The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) recently voiced its strong disapproval regarding the killing of over thirty citizens in Jos, describing the loss of life as a tragic reminder of a crisis that has plagued the region for far too long. In a statement made available to Reports, the association emphasized that the current state of affairs is unsustainable and deeply damaging to the fabric of the nation.

Baba Othman-Ngelzarma, the President of MACBAN, expressed profound condolences to the families of those affected by what he described as senseless violence. He noted that these recurring clashes continue to chip away at the foundation of peaceful coexistence and national unity. According to him, the state has been trapped in a pattern of mistrust and retaliatory attacks that must be broken if the community is to find any sense of normalcy.

A significant portion of the concern raised by the association focuses on the influence of certain public figures. Othman-Ngelzarma pointed out that the situation is often worsened by individuals, including some religious leaders and influencers, who use their platforms to spread inflammatory rhetoric rather than preaching tolerance. He argued that such actions are not only irresponsible but also dangerous, as they directly contribute to the escalation of tension in an already fragile environment.

The leadership of MACBAN believes that those in positions of authority—whether traditional, religious, or community-based—have a moral obligation to be voices of restraint. The association stressed that words have the power to either heal or destroy, making it vital for leaders to choose dialogue over incitement. The goal, they maintain, should be to de-escalate hostilities rather than fanning the embers of division.

Turning his attention to the role of law enforcement, Othman-Ngelzarma called for more decisive and professional action from security agencies. He insisted that anyone found responsible for instigating violence, regardless of their status or affiliation, must face the full weight of the law. The association believes that a lack of accountability only serves to embolden perpetrators, making it essential for security forces to intensify intelligence gathering and identify the sponsors behind these attacks.

Furthermore, MACBAN urged the government to strengthen its presence in vulnerable areas to prevent further incursions and ensure the safety of all residents. The organization reiterated its commitment to working alongside civil society and government institutions to find a lasting solution to the unrest. As Othman-Ngelzarma noted, the sanctity of human life should be non-negotiable, and the time for decisive action to end the bloodshed is long overdue.
