Nollywood actress Judy Austin has once again found herself at the center of a social media storm following her recent attempts to offer marital guidance to her followers. The actress took to her platforms to discuss the recurring issues in modern marriages, urging women to be more intentional with their partners if they truly desire a happy home. According to Judy, many people prefer to play the victim rather than take responsibility for the health of their relationships.
In her assessment, which was monitored by Reports, she identified social media as one of the primary culprits behind failing marriages today. She argued that many couples are inadvertently destroying their own unions while shifting the blame to spiritual forces. She remarked that people often do the devil’s work for him and only realize the damage when it is too late, promising to dive deeper into the topic during a live session.
However, her words did not sit well with the public. A wave of criticism immediately followed, with many netizens questioning her moral standing to give such advice. The backlash was swift, as commenters labeled her a “professional polygamist” and mocked her transition into a marriage counselor. Many pointed out the irony of her lecturing others on domestic stability given her controversial history with her husband, Yul Edochie.
The resentment stems from the highly publicized fallout of Yul’s first marriage to May Edochie. Judy became a polarizing figure after her relationship with Yul came to light while he was still married to May, the mother of his four children. That union eventually collapsed, leading to a messy legal battle where May filed for divorce, sought N100 million in damages from Judy, and secured a restraining order alongside full custody of their children.
This is not the first time Judy has attempted to position herself as a voice of wisdom. During the public crisis involving 2baba and Annie Idibia, she encouraged fans to pray for genuine love as much as they pray for money, claiming that having God, love, and wealth is the ultimate earthly paradise. She has also consistently messaged young women to avoid peer pressure and wayward lifestyles to prevent self-destruction.
Despite her frequent sermons on love and loyalty, her detractors remain unmoved. Even Yul’s aunt, Rita Edochie, has publicly voiced her disdain, questioning how a woman who allegedly “held someone’s husband to ransom” could continue to offer advice so boldly. As Judy continues to share her perspective on building a home, the public reaction suggests that for many, the messenger remains a significant barrier to the message.
