Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has warned of the emergence of a new Boko Haram offshoot, known as Wulowulo, in the north-central region of Nigeria.
Addressing security stakeholders in Lafia on Monday, Governor Sule emphasized that the arrival of the group could further destabilize an already fragile security environment. He urged immediate and coordinated action to prevent Wulowulo from establishing a foothold in Nasarawa.
“This new group, Wulowulo, is starting to appear in the north-central zone,” Sule said. “The Lakurawa group, initially active around Kebbi and Sokoto states, has now become a significant threat in Kwara, which is part of the north-central region. The rise of these groups is a serious concern, and we must act decisively to prevent them from spreading into our state.”
The governor also highlighted the increase in kidnappings in Lafia and Karu Local Government Areas, stressing the need for a fresh security strategy to protect residents.
Late last year, the Lakurawa faction reportedly crossed into Sokoto and Kebbi from Niger and Mali, a movement Sule fears could extend southward into Nasarawa if not urgently addressed. He called on all security agencies to strengthen collaboration and implement proactive measures to safeguard communities against the growing threat.
