A sense of fear and mourning has gripped the Innayin community in the Oke Ogun region of Oyo State following a terrifying encounter with a wild elephant that left one man dead and another missing. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, has thrown the quiet agrarian area into a state of emergency as local authorities and residents scramble to secure the vicinity.
The victim has been identified as Ibrahim Tijani, who unfortunately succumbed to the severe injuries inflicted by the animal during the attack. Reports reaching Zoyols News indicate that Tijani’s lifeless body was discovered in a nearby thicket by a search team. The remains showed visible signs of a brutal encounter consistent with an animal assault and have since been moved to the General Hospital in Iwere-Ile for medical examination and preservation.
The situation remains tense as another resident, Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin, is still unaccounted for. It was gathered that Bingin was also confronted by the same elephant before he disappeared. Intensive search operations are currently underway, with police officers, local hunters, and vigilante groups combing the bushes in hopes of finding him.
The Oyo State Police Command, through its spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the tragic event and stated that a full investigation is ongoing. According to the police, security teams were mobilized immediately after receiving a distress call from the community. They are currently monitoring the situation closely to ensure the safety of lives and to prevent any further attacks.
Zoyols News has learned that the authorities are urging residents of Innayin and neighboring towns to stay away from the forested areas for the time being.
