Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has brokered peace within the Ife Federal Constituency of the Peoples Democratic Party, urging stakeholders to guard against divisions as the state prepares for the 2026 governorship election.
At the reconciliation meeting were Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi; Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Senator Lere Oyewumi; State Party Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi; Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye; Chief of Staff, Hon. Kazeem Akinleye; Chairman of the Commissioners’ Forum, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa, and several other party leaders.
The peace talks followed a vote of no confidence passed on Deputy Governor Adewusi and former PDP National Secretary, Professor Wale Oladipo, by some leaders in Ife. They had accused both men of anti-party activities and called on Governor Adeleke to replace his deputy, claiming he lacked the support of party members in the area.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Adeleke dismissed the rift as a product of miscommunication and external attempts to create division within the PDP in Ife. He praised party leaders for their openness and described the meeting as proof of renewed unity.
“From everything I have heard today, I see a united PDP in Ile Ife. What we faced was simply a communication gap, along with a clear attempt by outsiders to divide us. Now that we have identified the root of the issue, it is time to move forward. Our government has delivered for Ife land and we will continue to do even more. Ile Ife remains a PDP stronghold, and I charge all leaders, elders, and party operatives to return to the field and sustain our momentum,” Adeleke said in a statement released by his spokesman, Mallam Olawale Rasheed.
Party chairman Hon. Sunday Bisi, speaking after the meeting, confirmed that the disagreements had been resolved. He added that all statutory meetings for party mobilisation would resume immediately, stressing that members must firmly resist any actions that could be mistaken for anti-party activity.
