Prince Harry made an unexpected visit to Ukraine on Friday, showing support for soldiers recovering from injuries sustained in the ongoing conflict with Russia. Arriving in Kyiv via an overnight train, the prince shared glimpses of his journey, including photos from a luxury carriage and moments on the station platform where he was warmly welcomed.
His visit comes as the newly appointed British foreign minister, Yvette Cooper, embarked on her first overseas trip since assuming office last week, also visiting Kyiv. Prince Harry was accompanied by a team from his Invictus Games Foundation, an organization dedicated to assisting wounded servicemen and servicewomen.
During the visit, he emphasized the importance of helping those affected by the war, saying, “We cannot stop the war, but what we can do is do everything we can to support the recovery process.” The prince was scheduled to meet Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and around 200 veterans, highlighting his commitment to offering both encouragement and practical support.
This visit follows a personal milestone for Harry, who recently reunited with his father, King Charles III, in Britain for the first time in nearly two years. The reunion comes amid years of growing distance between him and the royal family since stepping back from his official duties in 2020 and relocating to California with his wife, Meghan.
As he approaches his 41st birthday, Prince Harry’s visit underscores his ongoing dedication to military personnel while navigating his own evolving relationship with his family and public responsibilities.
