Senator Gada: PDP remains unshakable in Sokoto despite defections

The Peoples Democratic Party in Sokoto State is not losing its footing despite the recent wave of defections by some of its political actors. This is according to a former Senator representing Sokoto East, Abubakar Umar Gada, who insists that the party remains a formidable force in the region.

In a press statement released on Thursday, the veteran politician moved to calm the nerves of party faithful, urging them to stay focused and keep their eyes on the bigger picture. Gada stressed that while movement between political camps is a familiar feature of Nigeria’s shifting political climate, such departures do not shake the PDP’s long-standing grassroots support in the state.

Gada maintains that the party is far more than the individuals who choose to leave. He described the PDP as one of the most organized and people-centric platforms in the country, boasting a network that covers all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. For him, the true power of the party lies in the consistent loyalty of those members and leaders who have stood by it through various political seasons.

The former lawmaker acknowledged that while every individual has the right to make personal decisions about their political future, the PDP as an institution remains resilient. He emphasized that the party is deeply rooted in the aspirations of the people, making it capable of weathering any temporary storm.

To ensure the party stays on track, Gada revealed that the national leadership is already knee-deep in internal reconciliation efforts. He noted that key stakeholders are currently in talks to address lingering concerns and tidy up the party’s internal cohesion. These ongoing consultations are aimed at ensuring the PDP steps into future contests with a unified front and a clearer sense of purpose.

Drawing on the party’s history, Gada reminded supporters that this is not the first time the PDP has faced—and ultimately overcome—significant political hurdles. He encouraged members across Sokoto to avoid any internal squabbling that could foster division, urging them instead to pour their energy into grassroots mobilization and strengthening their local structures. For Gada, the way forward is clear: stay committed, remain resolute, and keep building for the challenges ahead.
