Seyi Law Apologizes for “Insensitive” Security Remarks in New Video

Zoyols

Popular Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has publicly walked back his recent claims regarding the state of security in the country, offering a sincere apology to citizens who felt insulted by his remarks. This follows a wave of backlash triggered by his appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast, where he suggested that Nigeria has become significantly safer under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

During that interview, Seyi Law argued that the current administration had made more progress in capturing or neutralizing bandits than the previous governments of Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari. He pointed to a perceived decrease in bomb attacks and violent incidents over the last few years as evidence of an improving security landscape. However, many Nigerians viewed these comments as tone-deaf and deeply insensitive to those still suffering from the ongoing crisis of kidnapping and communal violence.

Acknowledging the weight of the criticism, the comedian took to his Instagram page to release a video addressing the matter. Seyi Law admitted that his words were poorly chosen and failed to account for the lived experiences of many of his fellow citizens. He expressed deep regret, stating that the pain felt by one Nigerian should be felt by all, especially those who have lost their peace and security.

In his emotional message, he directly apologized to victims of insecurity and their families, recognizing that his statement may have made their trauma even harder to bear. He emphasized that every Nigerian deserves to sleep with their eyes closed and that no one should have their safety “snatched away” by criminals.

Despite being a well-known supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Seyi Law didn’t hold back from calling on the presidency to do more. He used the platform to urge the government to intensify its battle against insecurity, noting that more work is needed to truly secure the nation. He concluded his message with a prayer for the country, hoping for a future where every citizen feels genuinely protected.
