The Sokoto State Government has extended its deepest gratitude and commendation to the troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces for successfully repelling a significant bandit attack aimed at traders in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by Colonel Ahmed Usman (Rtd), the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, the bandits had attempted to ambush traders traveling from Tarah village en route to the bustling weekly market in Sabon Birni on Monday.

Colonel Usman confirmed that the troops responded with extreme swiftness and professionalism, engaging the criminals and successfully neutralizing several of the attackers. This rapid intervention prevented what could easily have resulted in a tragic loss of innocent civilian lives.

“The swift response, professionalism and courage displayed by our military personnel averted what could have been a tragic incident and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the lives and property of our people,” the Special Adviser noted.

The state government emphasized its profound appreciation for the relentless efforts and personal sacrifices made by the security forces. It urged them to sustain the current momentum and intensify their operations aimed at flushing out criminal elements not just from Sokoto, but from across the entire North West region.

The government also issued a strong call to action for all residents, pleading with them to remain highly vigilant and to support the security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence that could help forestall future attacks.

Colonel Usman concluded with a stern warning to anyone considering aiding the criminals: “We are determined to dismantle every network of bandits, collaborators, informants and financiers threatening the peace of our citizens. Anyone aiding or abetting criminal activity will face the full weight of the law without exception,” he warned.
