A sense of deep shock has gripped the Ajah community in Lagos following the brutal murder of Chief Augustine Nwalieze, a well-known figure in the transportation sector. The 67-year-old, who served as a manager at Okeyson Transport, was reportedly killed within the confines of his own home on Saturday morning.
The details of the incident are as harrowing as they are sudden. The tragedy unfolded just as the Chief was preparing to head out for the day. Family members grew concerned when they noticed that his vehicles remained unmoved in the driveway and several attempts to reach him by phone went unanswered.
Suspicion initially fell on the resident gateman, identified as Abdullahi Dairu, after he allegedly provided conflicting accounts of the Chief’s whereabouts. While the guard claimed his employer had gone out with a friend, that friend later denied seeing him. By the time the family returned to question the gateman further, he had already fled the premises.
A desperate search of the property eventually led to a gruesome discovery in one of the downstairs apartments. The Chief’s body was found with severe machete wounds to his head and limbs. Though he was rushed to a nearby hospital, medical professionals confirmed he had already passed away.
Close relatives described a scene of immense grief, noting that the deceased lived in the upper section of the house with his wife and daughter. Information indicates that the family has already begun the process of transporting his remains to his hometown for burial rites.
The Lagos State Police Command has officially confirmed the incident and launched a full-scale investigation into the homicide. Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, stated that authorities are currently tracking the fleeing security guard as they work to uncover the motive behind the senseless killing. For now, a neighborhood usually known for its calm is left mourning a man described by many as a pillar of the local industry.
