Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingos, will jet out of the country on October 8 as they begin their quest for glory at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, set to take place in Morocco from October 17 to November 8, 2025.
Drawn in Group D, the young Nigerian side faces a tough challenge against Canada, France, and Samoa. But under the guidance of head coach Moses Aduku, the team has been sharpening its edge in Abuja with a flawless run of form that has boosted confidence heading into the finals.
The Flamingos have played eight warm-up matches since returning to camp — winning every single one, scoring 26 goals, and not conceding once. The dominant displays have not only raised morale but also showcased the team’s growing chemistry and balance across the pitch.
Last week, they showed their class in a 3–0 win over Abuja All-Stars. Praise Agba pounced on a loose ball for the opener, Olamide Olanrewaju doubled the lead from the penalty spot, and Zainab Raji sealed it with a thunderous strike. Goalkeeper Sylvia Echefu was equally impressive, pulling off crucial saves to keep the clean sheet intact.
In another outing, a rain-affected clash with Josiah Academy, Chisom Nwachukwu netted twice within 10 minutes before the weather forced an early end, handing the Flamingos a 2–0 win. They followed that up with emphatic victories over Nazareth Angels (5–0), where Queen Joseph struck twice alongside goals from Agba, Mariam Yahaya, and Nwachukwu, and against Horvel Prime (5–0), where Joseph bagged a 35-minute hat-trick supported by captain Shakirat Moshood and Azeezat Oduntan.
From solid defending to ruthless finishing, the Flamingos have looked sharp in every department. With their preparations now complete, the girls head to Morocco determined to make a statement on the world stage.
