In a major push to combat poverty and support the less privileged, the UBA Foundation has successfully wrapped up a massive humanitarian campaign across Africa. As the charitable arm of United Bank for Africa, the Foundation distributed millions in food supplies, educational materials, and financial aid to orphanages, IDP camps, and struggling families. This project, which ran from late 2025 through January 2026, reached more than 100,000 people in Nigeria and 19 other African countries.
The initiative was specifically timed to ease the heavy financial burdens that often hit families during the transition from the end of the year into the new one. In Nigeria, the outreach covered every region, touching lives in facilities like the Destitute Home Okobaba in Lagos and various IDP camps in Borno and Niger states. Other beneficiaries included orphanages in Abia, Ebonyi, Kogi, and Taraba, ensuring that aid reached even the most remote areas.
The Foundation’s impact wasn’t limited to Nigeria. Identical relief efforts were carried out in several countries including Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, and Tanzania, among others. By replicating this model across the continent, the Foundation has reinforced its position as a leading force for social good, focusing on the basic nutritional and educational needs that are vital for community growth.
Bola Atta, the Managing Director of the UBA Foundation, personally oversaw many of the distributions. While visiting some of the homes, she reiterated that the Foundation’s mission goes beyond simple one-off donations. She explained that the goal is to show up consistently for these communities, providing the necessary tools and nourishment for children to thrive regardless of their economic background. She noted that true development starts with taking action to ensure no community is left behind.
Beyond this recent food bank initiative, the Foundation remains active through several other flagship programs. These include the National Essay Competition and the Read Africa Project, alongside environmental and health outreaches. By focusing on education, the environment, and economic empowerment, the Foundation continues to play a vital role in the socio-economic improvement of the regions where the bank operates.
