Governor Uba Sani has sent a firm message to political actors and the opposition, emphasizing that while his administration welcomes constructive criticism, it will not stand for the spread of falsehoods that threaten the stability of Kaduna State. Speaking during an Iftar gathering with heads of security agencies, the Governor highlighted the delicate and diverse nature of the state, noting that maintaining peace remains his top priority.
The Governor pointed out that the right to free speech should never be mistaken for a license to circulate fake news or incitement. He expressed concern over individuals who use the comfort of their homes to spread dangerous rumors via social media, warning that such actions could lead to the loss of lives and property. The Governor made it clear that those he described as “conflict merchants” would be dealt with strictly within the legal framework if they attempted to disrupt the state’s harmony for political gain.
With the political season approaching, Governor Sani reminded security chiefs that the electoral timetable is already in motion, with primaries expected to run between April and May. He cautioned that during this period, politicians who fail to secure their party’s tickets often resort to playing the victim and dish out misinformation to stir up confusion. He urged security agencies to remain vigilant and proactive in identifying these tactics before they escalate.
To further strengthen the state’s security architecture, the Governor called for a deeper level of synergy between security forces, local government chairmen, and traditional or religious leaders. He believes that grassroots cooperation is essential for effective intelligence gathering and preventing crime before it happens.
While commending the security agencies for their dedication and for the fact that Kaduna has not recorded any major ethno-religious crisis since he took office, the Governor acknowledged that work still needs to be done. He reiterated that his doors remain open for discussions on how to better tackle lingering challenges like banditry and kidnapping, ensuring that Kaduna remains a hospitable home for all residents regardless of their background.
