United Bank for Africa (UBA) is making bold, inclusive moves to reshape financial services across the continent. The bank’s strategy combines tech innovation, grassroots engagement, and strategic partnerships to reach the unbanked and underbanked. Their latest initiative, the Super Savers Season 5 promo, is a multi-layered campaign designed to deepen Nigeria’s savings culture and drive financial inclusion.
A Bold Campaign to Spur Financial Empowerment
In August 2025, UBA announced the start of its “Season of Progress” promo, a nine-month campaign running from September 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026. This promotion isn’t just about giving away cash; it’s about building a movement around financial empowerment, digital access, and community upliftment. The promo is designed to reward both new and existing customers while encouraging a culture of savings that will enable Nigerians to plan for their futures, whether for a child’s education, home ownership, or starting a business.
To qualify for the monthly draws, customers simply need to open a Bumper Account with a minimum deposit of N5,000. They can increase their chances of winning by depositing in multiples. Other qualifying accounts include Individual Savings accounts, which require a monthly deposit of N10,000 for three consecutive months, as well as accounts for young people like Kiddies, Teens, and NextGen accounts.
According to the bank, over N150 million will be won throughout the campaign, with more than 1,500 winners. The reward structure includes quarterly star prizes of N1 million for 27 winners, with other quarterly prizes ranging from N500,000 to N10,000. There will also be monthly airtime rewards and special categories for young savers. Kiddies and Teens account holders, for instance, have a chance to win a scholarship, while NextGen account customers can win N15,000 in pocket money every month for a year. The bank is also offering a 13th-month reward for Kiddies & Teens account customers and giving out airtime, data, and branded items. Dormant account holders can also qualify for special monthly N35,000 reactivation draws by simply funding their accounts with N10,000.
Driving Inclusion Through Technology and Partnerships
UBA’s digital transformation is a key part of its financial inclusion efforts. The bank has rolled out a new digital onboarding platform that allows customers to open accounts online in real-time, eliminating the need to visit a branch. All promo draws will be conducted live with oversight from regulatory bodies to ensure transparency, and the bank plans extensive nationwide activations in markets, campuses, and rural communities.
According to Mr. Chukwuma Nweke, UBA’s Group Deputy Managing Director, savings is crucial for nation-building. “Savings empower families and individuals to take control of their future,” he said. He added that the bank is committed to integrating more Nigerians into the formal banking system to bridge economic gaps and build stronger communities.
Mr. Shamsideen Fashola, Group Head of Retail and Digital Banking at UBA, highlighted the bank’s five-year journey of incentivizing a savings culture. This year’s promotion is even more ambitious and reflects the bank’s “unwavering commitment to rewarding our loyal customers” while also attracting new savers.
Alero Ladipo, Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, reiterated that the promo’s core purpose is financial inclusion. “We still have significant ground to cover in empowering Nigerian citizens toward financial independence, and we see this promotion as one of the ways to empower Nigerians,” she explained.
A Multi-Pronged Strategy for Africa
UBA’s overarching mission to bring financial services closer to every African is rooted in a strategy that leverages technology, partnerships, and grassroots engagement. The bank understands that traditional banking models alone cannot address the continent’s financial inclusion challenges.
As part of this effort, UBA recently launched a Mastercard prepaid card designed for individuals who have historically lacked access to formal financial services, such as young adults and gig workers. The card, which doesn’t require a traditional bank account, allows users to top up funds easily and transact both locally and internationally.
In its digital transformation journey, UBA has launched several platforms to redefine accessibility for millions. These include UBA Mobile Banking, a user-friendly app that enables a wide range of transactions; Leo, an AI-powered chatbot available 24/7 on platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger; and UBA Connect, a platform for seamless cross-border banking within UBA’s pan-African network.
The bank’s agent banking model has also proven to be a game-changer in rural and underserved areas. By partnering with local entrepreneurs, UBA has brought essential financial services closer to communities, reducing distance and cost barriers while also creating jobs. Customers can get more information about the Super Savers Season 5 promo by visiting a UBA branch, using the new digital onboarding platform, or contacting UBA’s customer service lines.
