Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has cleared the air regarding the political future of Rivers State, asserting that he has not yet given his blessing to any individual for upcoming contests. Speaking at a high-profile gathering of stakeholders from both the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic People at his Life Camp residence in Abuja, Wike made it clear that such weighty decisions are reserved for the collective wisdom of party elders.
The Minister used the late-Monday session to caution against the premature rush for endorsements, which he warned is currently fueling internal divisions. According to reports gathered by Zoyols News, Wike attributed the group’s current political strength to unity and genuine commitment rather than the influence of money. He pointed out that external forces are working tirelessly to drive a wedge between members precisely because their recent collaborations have been so successful.
During his address, Wike expressed a deep sense of disappointment toward certain individuals who, after securing appointments through the group’s influence, have turned around to criticize the leadership. He described this behavior as a fundamental failure of character. The Minister was blunt in his assessment, noting that many who once sought his mentorship now find it difficult to look him in the eye after choosing a path of deceit to advance their personal ambitions.
Addressing the rumors swirling around private endorsements for local and state offices, Wike insisted that his public and private stances are identical. He clarified that the only official endorsement currently on the table is for the presidency. He maintained that he has not picked a favorite for either the PDP or the APC at the state level and will not do so until a formal meeting of the elders takes place.
Reaffirming the group’s primary focus, Wike stated that the only person they have officially endorsed is President Bola Tinubu. He emphasized his reputation for transparency, telling the delegates that whatever he says under the cover of night is exactly what he will stand by during the day.
The Minister concluded by praising the council chairmen, Rivers elders, and the leadership of both parties for their seamless coordination. He noted that the absence of complaints regarding how members are being “carried along” is a strong testament to the success of their unified front.
