The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is set to launch a fresh round of infrastructure projects in Abuja, beginning Thursday. The development will see the inauguration of new roads and the rollout of solar-powered street lighting across key districts of the capital.
According to his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the inauguration programme will run from September 18 to October 16, covering a mix of completed and new projects. Out of the total, two road projects are already completed, while 14 fresh initiatives are set to begin.
One of the highlights is the “Light Up Abuja Programme,” which involves the installation of integrated hybrid solar lighting systems across prominent parts of the city. Areas to benefit include Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, the Central Business District, Airport Expressway, Katampe, Garki I and II, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi, and Katampe Extension.
In addition, Wike will flag off the construction of several key roads. These include an arterial road in Wuye District, an access road to the Mabushi Bus Terminal, and another leading to the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates site in Karsana. Also on the list is a major bypass from the Airport’s Second Runway, linking Bill Clinton Drive to Tunga Madaki settlement, complete with a four-span bridge.
The programme further covers the rehabilitation of the old Keffi Road, stretching 15 kilometres from Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction, alongside erosion control works in Kaura District, where three-span bridges will be constructed. Other road projects include a transit way connecting the Central Area to Wuse District and an access road to the FCT Fire Service Station.
Beyond roads and lighting, the minister will also inaugurate engineering infrastructure in outstanding layouts within Guzape and Asokoro, as well as the design and construction of official residences for heads of top courts. These residences will serve the President of the Court of Appeal, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, the Chief Judge of the FCT, and the President of the Industrial Court.
Olayinka noted that this latest rollout follows a series of projects recently commissioned across satellite towns and area councils, underscoring the minister’s drive to accelerate infrastructure development across the territory.
