George Akume has urged leaders and key stakeholders across the North Central region to strengthen their collaboration and stay focused on the goals set for the North Central Development Commission. He noted that the creation of the commission signals the Federal Government’s resolve to confront the developmental challenges that have lingered in the zone for years.
His message was delivered at a reception held in honour of Cosmas Akighir, Chairman of the commission’s governing board. The gathering, hosted by the Jemgbagh Active and Retired Directors Association, drew respected figures from across the region, including traditional rulers, commissioners, community representatives and other notable guests. The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Utsev, represented the SGF at the event, relaying Akume’s thoughts and appreciation.
Akume reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to building stronger unity across the country while improving the living conditions of citizens in every geopolitical zone. He thanked elders, religious leaders and community heads in the region for their support, stressing that shared purpose remains vital to the commission’s success.
Drawing from his deep connection to the region he once governed for two terms, Akume described the North Central as home and expressed a personal commitment to its peace, security and progress. He called on board members and commissioners of the commission to justify the trust placed in them by delivering tangible results that reflect the commission’s mandate.
He also appealed to traditional and religious leaders to back the commission’s programmes at the grassroots, adding that sustainable development requires broad cooperation. He prayed for guidance, unity and wisdom for all stakeholders, expressing confidence that the commission’s work will elevate the region and contribute meaningfully to national growth.
Cyril Yiltsen Tsenyil, Managing Director of the commission, joined other members of the board and management in celebrating Akighir. He described the chairman as a modest, unifying and forward thinking leader whose conduct mirrors the values of his community. Tsenyil said it was fulfilling to honour someone who, within just six months, had demonstrated integrity, commitment and unwavering support for the commission’s mission.
