Nigerian-born boxing star Anthony Joshua continues to be linked to the legal proceedings surrounding a tragic road crash that left two people dead. The driver involved in the incident, 46-year-old Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, recently appeared before the magistrates’ court in Sagamu as the case was called up again. During the court session, prosecutors requested more time to properly organize and present evidence, which resulted in the matter being adjourned to March 13.

The defendant, who was driving Joshua at the time of the crash, is facing several charges including causing death by dangerous driving, reckless driving, negligence behind the wheel, and driving without a valid licence. Court observers noted that this was his second appearance in court, though he has not yet entered a formal plea as the legal process continues to move forward gradually.

The accident happened along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on December 29, when Joshua’s vehicle collided with a stationary truck. The crash resulted in the death of his personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, both of whom were confirmed dead at the scene. Joshua also sustained injuries in the crash but later received medical treatment and was discharged from hospital two days after the accident as he continued his recovery away from the public eye.

Since the incident, attention has remained on the ongoing legal process as well as discussions about road safety on major highways. Fans and followers have continued to express concern and support for Joshua while waiting for the next court hearing in March, which is expected to shed more light on the case.
