England’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have suffered an unexpected setback after some of the team’s training equipment was reportedly stolen before the squad arrived at its training base in Kansas City.
Among the missing items are football boots, official match balls, and other training materials that were being transported from the team’s pre tournament camp in Florida to Swope Soccer Village in Missouri, where Thomas Tuchel’s side is scheduled to train ahead of its opening Group L fixture against Croatia on Wednesday.
Authorities in Kansas City have confirmed that an investigation is underway after a vehicle transporting the equipment arrived with several items missing.
In a statement, police disclosed that they were looking into a possible theft involving the team vehicle and were working to determine exactly what had been taken.
Reports indicate that two suspects have already been taken into custody as investigations continue, although officials have yet to reveal further details about the case.
The Football Association acknowledged that an incident had occurred but chose not to comment extensively because of the ongoing police investigation. Officials are said to be working closely with local law enforcement while making alternative arrangements to ensure the team’s preparations remain on track.
Although the full extent of the losses has not yet been officially confirmed, reports suggest the stolen items include valuable training gear needed during the tournament.
The incident comes at an important stage for England manager Thomas Tuchel, who is preparing to lead the national team into his first major international competition since taking charge. The German coach has supervised an intensive build up programme in the United States, with the players spending time acclimatising in Florida before moving to Kansas City for the start of the competition.
Despite the disruption, England’s training schedule is expected to continue as planned. The Three Lions head into the tournament as one of the leading contenders for the World Cup trophy and will be hoping to end their long wait for another major international title since lifting the World Cup in 1966.
England begin their Group L campaign against Croatia on June 17 before taking on Ghana and Panama in their remaining group stage matches.
For now, it remains uncertain whether the stolen equipment will be recovered as police continue their investigation into the incident.
