The Consul General of France in Lagos, Laurent Favier, has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening economic and trade relations with Nigeria. He said France remains focused on investing in projects that promote sustainable development, technology transfer and inclusive economic growth that will create jobs and boost prosperity in both countries.
Favier made this known during a press conference organised by the Franco Nigeria Chamber of Commerce and Industry to mark its 40th anniversary and the beginning of the French Week celebration which will hold from November 7, 2025.
He commended the Nigerian government for its ongoing reforms which, according to him, are creating a more favourable business environment and strengthening bilateral cooperation. He noted that the relationship between France and Nigeria goes beyond diplomacy, describing Nigeria as a vital hub for innovation and investment.
“Nigeria is not just a major market for French businesses, it is also a source of inspiration and creativity,” he said. “Our partnership keeps growing stronger, built on mutual trust and shared goals.”
Highlighting the importance of the partnership, Favier said Nigeria remains France’s top trading partner in sub Saharan Africa and the fourth largest in Africa, accounting for about 20 percent of France’s trade in the region. Over one hundred French companies now operate in Nigeria, providing more than sixteen thousand direct jobs and several thousand indirect ones.
He mentioned companies such as TotalEnergies which has committed six billion dollars to Nigeria’s energy sector, and Fanmilk Nigeria, owned by Danone, which continues to expand with a new production line in Ibadan. He also praised Schneider Electric for its steady investment in Nigeria through a new office facility and sustainable energy initiatives.
The President of the Franco Nigeria Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Guillaume Niarfeix, shared similar sentiments, noting that with the support of the French Embassy, Consulate, Business France, AFD, Proparco, French Tech and Promosalon, the chamber remains the most active bilateral business platform in Nigeria.
Niarfeix praised the Nigerian government and its people for their welcoming attitude toward the French business community, describing it as proof of mutual respect and a shared vision. He added that Nigeria continues to be one of France’s strongest partners in Africa, with the bond between both nations growing stronger each year.
He further announced that the French Week and 40th Anniversary celebration will include several events such as an opening cocktail on November 7, a Start up Summit on November 10, a Business Forum on November 13 and a Gala and Awards Night on November 14, 2025.
According to him, this milestone is not just a celebration of past achievements but also a renewed pledge to strengthen the partnership and build a more prosperous future for both countries.
