The wife of the Charles Soludo, Nonye Soludo, has taken another step toward promoting food security in Anambra State with the distribution of 5,000 packs of hybrid non GMO seeds to residents across different communities.
The exercise was carried out through her non governmental organisation, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, a platform dedicated to encouraging healthy lifestyles, greener environments, and sustainable food production among families.
Zoyols News gathered that the seed distribution initiative began in 2024 and has continued to expand steadily. With the latest round of support, the total number of seed packs distributed across the state has now reached 25,000.
Each seed package reportedly contains different crop varieties including corn, tomatoes, cabbage, pepper, okra, and green vegetables carefully selected to help households cultivate fresh and organic food within their homes and surrounding communities.
Speaking during the exercise, Mrs Soludo encouraged residents, especially women, to embrace home gardening and small scale farming. According to her, growing food at home can help families reduce feeding costs while also creating opportunities for extra income through the sale of surplus harvests.
She explained that the initiative is not only about food production but also about empowering households economically, promoting healthier eating habits, and supporting environmental sustainability across communities.
The Anambra First Lady also assured residents that further information regarding the distribution process would be communicated publicly, while urging interested individuals to take advantage of the programme.
The initiative reflects ongoing efforts in several parts of Nigeria aimed at tackling food insecurity by encouraging families and local communities to actively participate in food production at the grassroots level.
