The Nigeria Super League continued to deliver thrilling action at the TBS Cricket Oval in Lagos as Northern Lions and Middle-Belt Tigers maintained their unbeaten runs after another entertaining round of fixtures on Matchday Three.
One of the standout moments of the day came in the clash between Middle Belt Tigers and Eastern Elephants, a tense encounter that ended with just a two run difference.
Batting first, the Tigers posted 85 runs for the loss of four wickets in nine overs. Eghosa Aghedo Destiny anchored the innings with a calm unbeaten 40, while Solomon Chilemanya added a quick 15 runs. Team captain Runsewe Sulaimon also gave the innings an early spark with a rapid nine runs from just four balls.
Eastern Elephants fought back strongly during the chase as Rahmon Ali smashed 26 runs off 12 deliveries, while Paul Pam contributed 19 runs to keep their side firmly in the contest.
The game remained evenly balanced until disciplined bowling from the Tigers shifted momentum late in the innings. Ndubudem delivered a crucial spell, taking two wickets for just seven runs, while Eghosa Aghedo Destiny completed a brilliant all round display by adding two wickets to his unbeaten knock. His performance earned him the Player of the Match award as Eastern Elephants eventually closed on 83 for five.
In another fixture, Northern Lions extended their strong start to the tournament with an emphatic 50 run victory over Central Eagles.
After losing early wickets, the Lions recovered to post 117 for nine in 20 overs. Captain Okpe Sylvester led from the front with a composed 44 runs off 38 balls, while Reigneth Osagie chipped in with an important 28 runs.
Central Eagles showed determination with the ball, thanks largely to captain Peter Aho, who impressed with four wickets for 26 runs. Uboh Ifeanyi also claimed two wickets to slow the scoring late in the innings.
Chasing 118 for victory, Central Eagles struggled to gain momentum as the Northern Lions bowlers tightened control of the game. Selim Salau top scored with 20 runs, while Emmanuel Boniface Oche added 13, but regular wickets prevented any meaningful recovery.
Okpe Sylvester completed an outstanding all round performance by taking three wickets for just 10 runs in four overs. Reigneth Osagie and Eweka Ogbemudia also grabbed two wickets each as Central Eagles were bowled out for 67 runs in 15.2 overs.
With the latest results, Northern Lions now sit comfortably at the top of the standings with two wins from two matches and the best net run rate in the competition. Middle Belt Tigers remain close behind in second place after maintaining their unbeaten record.
Meanwhile, Southern Sharks and Central Eagles have recorded one victory and one defeat each, while Eastern Elephants and Western Dolphins are still searching for their first wins of the tournament.
Attention now shifts to the next round of fixtures as Southern Sharks prepare to face Eastern Elephants, while Western Dolphins take on Central Eagles. Northern Lions are also scheduled to battle Eastern Elephants, with Southern Sharks set for a tough contest against Middle Belt Tigers later in the weekend.
