Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has mourned the passing of Segun Awolowo, the first grandson of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, describing his death as a deeply painful loss for Nigeria.
Segun Awolowo, who was 62, served as a former Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council and was widely recognized for his intellect and dedication. His family confirmed his passing in a statement on Thursday, November 20.
Governor Makinde, through his Special Assistant on Print Media, Moses Alao, extended condolences to Dr Tokunbo Awolowo Dosumu, Chairman of African Newspapers of Nigeria PLC and publishers of the Tribune titles, as well as to the entire Awolowo family and the management of Tribune.
He praised Segun Awolowo as a remarkable mind and a distinguished ambassador of the Awolowo legacy, noting the positive impact he left in every endeavor he undertook. The governor prayed for the eternal repose of his soul and strength for the family during this difficult time.
