Residents of Mallamawar Yari village in the Gawakuke ward of Rabah Local Government Area, Sokoto State, are currently in shock following a deadly Saturday night raid by armed bandits. In a disturbing twist to their usual operations, the attackers reportedly disguised themselves in women’s hijabs to infiltrate the community. This tactic allowed them to move through the area without raising immediate alarm before they unleashed a violent assault on the unsuspecting villagers.
Reports indicate that the attackers killed several residents during the chaos, while many others were forcibly taken from their homes and moved to an unknown location. The use of religious attire as a disguise has added a new layer of fear to the already tense security situation in the region, as it suggests a calculated attempt by the criminals to bypass local vigilance.
The incident was brought to public attention on Sunday by a prominent security analyst known as Bakatsine. Sharing details of the tragedy, he questioned the effectiveness of current security measures in the face of such evolving tactics. He noted that the frequency of these attacks across various Sokoto communities has left many wondering what concrete steps are being taken to finally halt this wave of insecurity.
As of the time of this report, the relevant authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the exact number of casualties or the status of those abducted. For the people of Rabah, the night of violence is another painful reminder of the vulnerability of rural communities as they wait for a more robust response from security agencies.
