Italian club Atalanta will hold off Ademola Lookman’s release for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations until December 11. Lookman, included in Nigeria’s 55-man preliminary squad by head coach Eric Chelle, is expected to feature in the final 28-man roster.
The Super Eagles are set to kick off their AFCON 2025 campaign in Cairo, Egypt, on December 10, with players joining the team camp the following day. Atalanta will only allow Lookman to join the squad after their Serie A clash with Cagliari on December 13, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Lookman, 28, is expected to be a key figure for Nigeria in Morocco. At AFCON 2023, he scored three goals and provided an assist across seven matches, helping the Super Eagles secure the runner-up spot. His presence is widely seen as pivotal to Nigeria’s hopes of success in the upcoming tournament.
