Concerns around a dangerous online trend have grown after a public warning from manufacturers of Hypo Bleach, following viral content linked to online personalities King Mitchy and VeryDarkMan. Zoyols reports that the company behind Hypo Bleach, Multipro Enterprise Limited, has strongly advised Nigerians to stop treating the product as anything other than a cleaning agent.
In a statement shared through its marketing manager, Adebayo Adeyemo, the company clarified that Hypo Bleach is designed strictly for household cleaning purposes. He explained that the product is formulated to remove tough stains, whiten fabrics, eliminate odours, and kill germs effectively. He was very direct in stressing that Hypo is not a beverage and should never be consumed, especially as part of social media challenges or trends.
The company expressed serious worry over videos and artificially generated images circulating online showing the bleach being portrayed like a drink. They described such content as misleading and potentially harmful. According to the company, anyone encouraging others to drink or imitate such behaviour, even jokingly, is putting lives at risk. They urged the public to disregard these posts and treat them as dangerous fabrications.
The warning became necessary after an online argument involving King Mitchy and VeryDarkMan reportedly triggered a disturbing wave of imitation content. Some social media creators began posting videos simulating suicide attempts using Hypo bleach sachets as props, a development that quickly raised alarm among viewers.
Multipro Enterprise also appealed to influencers, bloggers, and creators to act more responsibly when creating content. The company reminded them that their audience reach carries influence, adding that trends that could harm health are not worth chasing. They encouraged creators to think about long-term consequences before participating in viral challenges.
The company further advised young people to prioritise their safety and mental well-being. They emphasised that no online pressure should force anyone to engage in risky behaviour for attention or validation. The message was clear that real life safety matters more than online popularity.
The controversy intensified after a video surfaced showing VDM appearing to take a substance from a Hypo sachet, which many viewers interpreted as a reaction to the ongoing online trend. This sparked even more imitation videos across platforms, with creators using the bleach sachet in skits that mimicked self-harm scenarios.
The trend has faced heavy backlash from parents, social activists, and concerned members of the public. Many have described it as disturbing, irresponsible, and dangerous for younger audiences who may easily be influenced. Calls have also been made for stricter monitoring of harmful online content to protect vulnerable users from dangerous challenges.
