Research suggests Hitler may have had a genetic sexual disorder

New research suggests Adolf Hitler most likely suffered from Kallmann Syndrome, a genetic disorder that can cause undescended testicles and a micropenis, according to scientists and documentary makers reporting Thursday after DNA testing of the Nazi dictator’s blood.

The study also dispels claims that Hitler had Jewish ancestry, a rumor that had circulated for decades. While popular World War II songs mocked Hitler’s anatomy, they were never based on science. The international team of historians and geneticists says the new findings now provide evidence supporting long-held suspicions about his sexual development.

“No one has ever fully explained why Hitler was so uncomfortable around women or why he seemingly never formed intimate relationships,” said Alex Kay from the University of Potsdam. “The presence of Kallmann Syndrome could be the answer we’ve been seeking.”

The research is detailed in the upcoming documentary “Hitler’s DNA: Blueprint of a Dictator,” set to air Saturday. Testing revealed a “high likelihood” that Hitler had Kallmann Syndrome, along with scores placing him in the top one percent for predisposition to autism, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder, according to Blink Films, the production company behind the project. The researchers stressed that such conditions do not in any way excuse his atrocities or policies of aggression and racism, which led to the deaths of over 50 million people, including six million Jews.

The DNA testing was conducted using a blood sample extracted from material on the sofa where Hitler took his life. Blink Films explained that Kallmann Syndrome often results in low testosterone, undescended testicles, and a micropenis. The study also ruled out claims of Jewish ancestry through Hitler’s grandmother, whose alleged pregnancy by an employer had fueled speculation. Analysis confirmed that Hitler’s Y chromosome matches his male-line relatives, meaning no outside Jewish lineage was present.

Geneticist Turi King, who previously helped identify the remains of King Richard III, highlighted the cruel irony of Hitler’s policies on eugenics. “His genes place him in a category of people who would have been targeted by the very policies he enforced. Had he known his DNA, he likely would have condemned himself,” she said.

The two-part documentary will premiere on the UK’s Channel 4 this Saturday, offering an in-depth look at the scientific insights into one of history’s most infamous figures.
