Italian Serie A side Atalanta has slashed the transfer fee for Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman as the January window nears its close. The club, which previously demanded an eye-watering €55 million for the 28-year-old, is now reportedly willing to let him go for around €35 million.
Lookman, who played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph last season, had submitted a transfer request amid interest from top European clubs. The initial high asking price stalled negotiations, even prompting the player to go on a brief absence from training. He eventually returned to Bergamo, regaining his spot in the starting lineup just before departing for AFCON 2025 with Nigeria.
At the African showpiece in Morocco, Lookman was a standout performer. His electric pace and incisive runs saw him earn multiple Player of the Match awards and a spot in the tournament’s team of the stages. Nigeria finished third, clinching the bronze medal after losing to hosts Morocco in the semifinals.
With Atalanta now open to a more reasonable fee, clubs like Fenerbahce are reportedly lining up to secure Lookman’s signature before the transfer window closes. His current market valuation sits at €35 million, and with his contract expiring next year, he could become a free agent if a deal isn’t struck soon.
This development signals a potential end to Lookman’s turbulent spell at Atalanta and opens the door for a new chapter in his career.
