The Kogi State Executive Council, led by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, has approved a draft budget estimate of ₦820.49 billion for the 2026 fiscal year. The proposal, themed “Budget of Shared Prosperity: Driving Sustainable Growth for All,” represents an increase of ₦215.96 billion, or 35.7 percent, over the revised ₦604.53 billion budget for 2025.

Governor Ododo, who chaired the council meeting where the draft was presented, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive growth, economic diversification and improved service delivery across all sectors of the state.

The Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Asiru Idris, who presented the proposal, explained that the 2026 budget is anchored on strategies aimed at strengthening Kogi’s revenue base, deepening ongoing reforms and promoting sustainable economic growth.

According to him, the budget projects ₦470.01 billion in recurrent revenue and ₦350.48 billion in capital receipts. Expenditure allocations include ₦360.67 billion for recurrent spending and ₦459.82 billion for capital projects, making the total budget balanced at ₦820.49 billion.

Recurrent expenditure will cover personnel costs, overheads, subventions and debt servicing obligations of ministries, departments and agencies, while capital spending will focus on completing ongoing projects and initiating new interventions in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture and social welfare.

Idris emphasized that the 2026 fiscal plan prioritizes the enhancement of internally generated revenue, expansion of public-private partnerships, improvement of debt recovery systems and the creation of a more business-friendly environment. He added that the budget seeks to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal through targeted social protection programmes, rural development, support for small and medium enterprises and promotion of alternative energy sources such as compressed natural gas.

The commissioner noted that the budget was prepared through an inclusive process involving stakeholder consultations, town hall meetings and technical sessions with ministries and agencies to ensure that the people’s priorities are reflected.

He assured that Governor Ododo’s administration remains committed to transparency, accountability and prudent fiscal management, adding that the 2026 draft budget is designed to consolidate the progress achieved in 2025 and advance the government’s vision of shared prosperity for the people of Kogi State.

Zoyols Blog gathered that the budget proposal will be presented to the Kogi State House of Assembly for consideration and approval in the coming weeks
