Toke Makinwa’s recent message to new mothers has stirred fresh conversations after she encouraged them to rethink the habit of bathing their newborns every day. The Nollywood actress and media figure, who welcomed her first child at 40, shared her thoughts in a casual video shared on her social media page, explaining why she believes daily baths may do more harm than good to a baby’s skin.
She pointed out that newborns are naturally clean and that there is nothing unclean about the environment they come from. In her words, a baby who has spent months in the womb has not been exposed to dirt the way adults often assume. Because of this, she believes the skin of a newborn should be handled with extra care.
In the video, she explained that she does not bathe her child every day. Instead, she opts for gentle wiping when necessary, noting that babies are not running around or building up sweat like older children. She stressed that newborn skin is extremely delicate and repeated the question many mothers never pause to consider: if they are not dirty, why constantly drench them in water.
Her comments have since prompted reactions from viewers, with some embracing her perspective and others challenging her stance. Many questioned her experience as a first time mother, while others insisted that nursing practices should be based on medical advice.
