Prof. Ademola Adenle, the inaugural laureate of the World Academy of Sciences and M.S. Swaminathan Award for Food and Peace, has been named “Nigerian of the Week” by the National Orientation Agency.
The recognition follows a recent visit to the State House, where President Bola Tinubu personally commended Adenle for his exceptional contributions to food security and sustainable agriculture in Nigeria and across Africa. The President praised the scholar’s innovative approaches, global leadership, and dedication to advancing science and technology for national development.
“Nigeria is proud of Prof. Adenle’s accomplishments. His commitment to food security and sustainable agricultural systems represents the kind of forward-thinking leadership our continent needs,” President Tinubu said.
Aisha Ali, Chief Information Officer at the NOA, confirmed the announcement, noting that the award reflects Adenle’s decades-long research and advocacy on science-based policies, agricultural innovation, and environmental stewardship.
Through his work with international organizations and policy think tanks, Adenle has influenced agricultural reforms and promoted sustainable development strategies that improve livelihoods across Africa. The NOA described the honour as part of its effort to celebrate Nigerians who exemplify excellence, patriotism, and innovation.
