Ademola Lookman is set to play his last match for Atalanta this Saturday before heading to the Super Eagles camp ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The Nigerian winger will take part in a Christmas charity fixture against Cagliari at the New Balance Arena, a long-standing tradition organized by club president Antonio Percassi.
Lookman is scheduled to depart for Nigeria on Sunday to join preparations for the Eagles’ friendly against Egypt on December 16. The 27-year-old has regained top form this season, notably playing a pivotal role in Atalanta’s recent 2-1 Champions League win over Chelsea.
Atalanta’s official website confirmed the match will kick off at 20:45 CET, with team jerseys to be auctioned for charity, keeping in line with the club’s festive tradition.
Manager Raffaele Palladino expressed regret at losing Lookman for the AFCON period, describing him as vital to the squad. “We are losing two key players, strong and decisive,” Palladino said, referring to Lookman and defender Odilon Kossounou. He praised Lookman’s mix of offensive threat and defensive work rate, noting, “A few words are enough with him; he’s intelligent and immediately grasps instructions. His recent form is impressive, both going forward and tracking back.”
Lookman’s performances are a timely boost for Nigeria, who will face Tanzania, Uganda, and Tunisia in Group C at the AFCON in Morocco. His blend of skill, intelligence, and commitment gives the Super Eagles a critical edge as the tournament approaches.
