Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has seen his market value take a massive hit in the latest Bundesliga update, dropping from €40 million to €20 million, according to new figures released by Transfermarkt.
The 24-year-old forward’s valuation has been slashed in half after a rocky few months on both the club and international fronts—a steep fall for a player once regarded as one of Nigeria’s fastest-rising football stars in Europe.
Despite the dip, Boniface remains Werder Bremen’s most valuable player and currently sits as Nigeria’s sixth most valuable footballer, slipping from third place earlier in the year. He’s now ranked 57th among Bundesliga players, 68th among those born in 2000, and 79th among centre-forwards worldwide.
His troubles began in the summer after a big-money move to AC Milan collapsed following a failed medical. The transfer breakdown was a huge blow for Boniface, whose stock had skyrocketed from under €1 million three years ago to €45 million during Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten 2023/24 campaign—a season that saw him lift three trophies.
Now on loan at Werder Bremen, Boniface has struggled to find form. He’s yet to score for his new club after four substitute appearances, though he did manage an assist in Bremen’s 4-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Things haven’t been much better on the international scene. Since Eric Chelle took over as Super Eagles head coach, Boniface has found himself sidelined, missing out on World Cup qualifiers in September and October. Chelle instead placed his trust in Akor Adams, Tolu Arokodare, and Terem Moffi as alternatives to Victor Osimhen.
For a player who made his name at Union Saint-Gilloise—where he claimed the Europa League Golden Boot in 2023 before joining Leverkusen—this latest decline marks a tough chapter in his career.
Other Nigerian stars in the Bundesliga have fared better. Nathan Tella (€15m), Felix Agu (€8m), Jordan Torunarigha (€4m), and Kevin Akpoguma (€2.5m) all retained their previous valuations.
The overall update, however, brought good news for others across the league. Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala now leads the Bundesliga value chart at €140 million following Florian Wirtz’s move to Liverpool. His teammate Michael Olise—also of Nigerian descent—soared by €30 million to hit €130 million after a standout run of performances.
Dayot Upamecano’s value climbed 20 percent to €60 million, while teenage prodigy Lennart Karl enjoyed a record-breaking 1,233 percent rise, jumping from €1.5 million to €20 million to become the most valuable player born in 2008.
Zoyols Blog gathered that for Boniface, this sharp market drop may serve as a wake-up call, as he looks to rediscover the form that once made him one of Europe’s most exciting attacking prospects.
