Burna Makes History as First Nigerian with Five Grammy Album Nods

ZoyolsBlog

Damini Ogulu, internationally recognized as Burna Boy, has etched his name in history as the first Nigerian artist to secure five Grammy nominations specifically for album categories. His latest work, No Sign of Weakness (2025), earned him a nomination for Best Global Music Album at the forthcoming 2025 Grammy Awards, among other notable contenders.

This milestone builds on Burna Boy’s impressive Grammy journey, which includes previous nominations for African Giant (2019), Twice As Tall (2020), Love, Damini (2022), and I Told Them (2023). Alongside his album nods, he also received recognition for his track Love in the Best African Music Performance category.

Nigerian musical talent dominated this category, with artists like Davido, Ayra Starr, and Wizkid earning nominations alongside African stars such as Eddy Kenzo and South Africa’s Tyla. This strong representation highlights the growing global influence of African music, with Nigerian artists leading the charge.

The Grammy winners will be announced next year in Los Angeles, further spotlighting the remarkable strides African music continues to make on the world stage.
