Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois criticized the decision to move Barcelona’s LaLiga clash with Villarreal to Miami, calling it a distortion of the competition.
Speaking at a press conference, Courtois said the move “totally adulterates the competition.” He compared it to the NBA and NFL, where teams occasionally play abroad but within frameworks agreed by the league and team owners. “They have 82 games in the NBA, and in the NFL it’s voted on by the owners. This is completely different,” he added.
Courtois also argued that Barcelona would gain an unfair edge by facing Villarreal at a neutral venue, rather than in a standard away game, raising questions about fairness in the league’s decision.
