President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigeria’s service chiefs to adopt fresh strategies to tackle insecurity and deliver tangible results. Speaking after a closed-door meeting at Aso Rock Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede shared key insights from the discussion.
According to Oluyede, the meeting was constructive and focused on enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of Nigeria’s security agencies. “The President provided new directives aimed at achieving better results in combating all forms of insecurity,” he said, adding that the security forces are working together to ensure Nigerians can enjoy a peaceful yuletide.
The gathering brought together top military and security officials, including Chief of Army Staff Lt. General W. Shaibu, Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral I. Abbas, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, Chief of Defence Intelligence Lt. General Emmanuel Undiandeye, Director-General of the Department of State Services Adeola Ajayi, and Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
In a related development, President Tinubu also donated ₦200 million to the Nigerian Legion during the launch of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal at the Presidential Villa. He assured that the government would continue to prioritize the welfare of military personnel, injured officers, and the families of fallen heroes.
The ceremony saw additional contributions from prominent officials, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu donating ₦100 million on behalf of the National Assembly, while FCT Minister Nyesom Wike contributed ₦20 million.
The President’s message and the generous donations underscore his commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security institutions and honoring the sacrifices of its servicemen and women.
