Fear has gripped Anwule community in Oglewu, Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State after suspected armed herdsmen launched a deadly two-day assault, leaving four people dead and several others badly injured.
Residents say the attackers, who had been lurking around the area for days, invaded the community early Monday morning, unleashing chaos with guns and machetes. Two people were killed in the initial attack, while another round of violence the following day claimed two more lives and left many injured.
According to locals, several villagers remain missing, and homes have been deserted as terrified residents flee to nearby communities for safety. “We’ve lost everything,” one source told Zoyols Blog. “They’re destroying our harvests and feeding their cattle on our farms. We worked so hard to plant, and now we’re being forced to watch it all disappear.”
The Chairman of Ohimini Local Government, Gabriel Adole, confirmed the incident and said the matter had been reported to the state authorities and security agencies for immediate action.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, for further comment were unsuccessful as of press time.
