Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reaffirmed that his administration will continue to anchor its work on transparency, openness, and accountability. He gave the assurance in Kaduna during the opening of the 2025 Retreat of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel.
The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ibrahim, noted that his government intends to maintain an open-door relationship with the media so that residents can easily access credible information about ongoing programmes and development efforts. He stressed that public trust is strengthened when leaders remain open and allow information to flow freely.
Yusuf described the media as a vital pillar of any functional democracy, pointing out that societies thrive when citizens are well informed. According to him, journalists play an essential role in shaping public understanding, guiding opinion, and keeping governance on track.
He commended the Correspondents’ Chapel for choosing to hold its first-ever retreat outside Kano, saying such gatherings help strengthen professional capacity while also fostering stronger engagement between the government and the media. He added that opportunities like this encourage reflection and renewed commitment to the responsibilities journalists carry.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Murtala Adewale, said the retreat was designed to give members a relaxed environment to reconnect and refresh. He explained that the theme, “Emerging Trends in Journalism: Impact of AI, News Sources, and the Digital-Driven Newsroom in Modern Journalism, Tasks Before Journalists,” aims to prepare reporters for the rapidly changing media landscape and the demands the future will place on their work.
