Kunle Afolayan is taking African storytelling to a bold new level with a landmark partnership with the Republic of Benin. His production company, Kunle Afolayan Production (KAP) Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to reshape the region’s film and audiovisual industry, bringing fresh opportunities for creative growth and global recognition.

The collaboration aims to empower African youth, strengthen the continent’s creative infrastructure, and champion authentic African narratives. Speaking on the initiative, Afolayan emphasized that the partnership will focus on three core areas: co-producing films that celebrate African stories, offering structured training programs for aspiring filmmakers, and developing a world-class Film City in Ouidah, Benin.

The signing ceremony at the KAP Hub in Lagos gathered high-level representatives from both sides. Leading the Benin delegation was Sinatou Saka, Special Adviser to the President, accompanied by Coline-Lee Toumson-Venite, Bassirou Ndiaye, Faissol Gnonlonfin, and Meto Adoglo, each bringing expertise in arts, culture, and creative development. KAP Group was represented by Kunle Afolayan himself, Executive Director Seun Soyinka, and Professor Tunji Azeez, Head of the KAP Film & Television Academy.

Afolayan described the partnership as a “defining moment for African cinema,” highlighting the chance to blend visionary leadership, cultural authenticity, and creative excellence to project Africa’s stories and talents onto the global stage. Echoing this excitement, Sinatou Saka praised the initiative for its potential to build capacity and foster meaningful collaboration across borders.

As part of the agreement, the Benin delegation will tour KAP Group’s Lagos production hub and the KAP Film Village & Resort in Igbojaye-Komu, Oyo State, later this month. The move signals a commitment to Pan-African creative synergy, aiming to unify African voices and showcase the continent’s rich narratives to audiences worldwide.

This partnership marks a major step in positioning African cinema as a global force, combining local authenticity with international ambition under the visionary leadership of Kunle Afolayan and his team.
