French President Emmanuel Macron has given fresh assurances that France will deepen its backing for Nigeria as the country battles terrorism and growing security tensions. His remarks came after a phone conversation with President Bola Tinubu, a discussion he later referenced on his official social media page.
Macron noted that France stands in full solidarity with Nigeria, acknowledging the complex threats facing the nation, especially the persistent violence in the northern region. He said President Tinubu had asked for stronger cooperation, and France is ready to expand its support to both government agencies and communities hit hard by insecurity.
Macron stressed that France would step up its collaboration with Nigerian authorities, while urging other international partners not to remain on the sidelines. According to him, the scale of extremist violence requires a united global response.
His statement comes at a time when international attention on Nigeria’s security situation has intensified, following recent global concerns over rising attacks and instability in several parts of the country.
France and Nigeria have already built a steady security partnership over the years, working closely on military training, intelligence support, technology sharing and joint maritime patrols. Macron’s latest commitment signals a push to broaden that cooperation as both nations confront evolving regional threats.
