Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has offered automatic employment to nine former corps members of Abia origin who were recently honoured with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Presidential Award for their outstanding contributions during service.
The governor made the announcement on Tuesday when he received the awardees at Government House, Umuahia. They were accompanied by the NYSC State Coordinator, Gladys Adama.
Governor Otti directed the State Head of Service to immediately issue appointment letters to the beneficiaries: Nwogu Chinonso, Anyanwu Promise, Ezieme Uba, Emmanuel Ezinne, Abia Grace, Nwafike Chiemela, Ugwa Mark, Eke Miracle, and James Chukwuebuka.
He explained that the decision was exceptional, noting that although a freeze on employment had been in place, it was temporarily lifted to accommodate the nine honourees. “You have already passed the interviews through your performance and recognition. All that is left is documentation, and you can resume work immediately,” Otti said.
The governor also presented them with cash tokens, urging them to remain exemplary in their careers and to serve Abia State with dedication.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Mr. Nwogu Chinonso from Obingwa LGA, who served in Zamfara State, expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for the rare gesture. He pledged that they would uphold the trust placed in them and contribute meaningfully to the state’s progress.
