Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu, has urged Nigerians living abroad to take advantage of the vast opportunities unfolding in Lagos, describing the state as not only the future of Nigeria but also a key player in Africa’s growth story.
He made the appeal while addressing participants at the 14th Biennial Convention and 25th Anniversary of Eko Club International in New Jersey, United States. At the event, the governor also received the Eko Club International Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Sanwo Olu praised the association for its 25 years of service and commitment, hailing it as a bridge that connects Lagosians across continents while upholding the pride and culture of the state.
Highlighting what he termed the “Lagos Advantage,” the governor showcased the state’s remarkable progress in infrastructure, innovation, and international relevance. He referenced recent milestones such as the expansion of the metro system, Lagos’ successful hosting of global events, the shipment of refined petrol to the United States, and the transformation of the Lagos Free Trade Zone into Africa’s largest industrial hub.
“The diaspora is a vital part of Lagos’ success story,” Sanwo Olu said. “I encourage you to invest in Lagos, whether in housing, healthcare, education, or technology. These opportunities will create impact for Lagosians at home while also benefitting those abroad.”
He emphasized that Nigerians in the diaspora are partners in shaping Lagos’ future, noting that their expertise, resources, and international connections remain invaluable to the state’s development.
Eko Club International, a cultural and social organisation for Lagos indigenes abroad, has for 25 years supported projects in healthcare, education, and humanitarian services. The New Jersey convention served as both its biennial gathering and a celebration of its 25th anniversary, reaffirming its commitment to unity and progress among Lagosians worldwide.
Governor Sanwo Olu assured Lagosians everywhere that his administration remains focused on driving policies and projects that will open more opportunities, attract investments, and consolidate Lagos’ position as Africa’s commercial hub.
