Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, has said that Seyi Tinubu, the president’s son, is fully qualified to contest for any political office in Nigeria, including the governorship of Lagos State or even the presidency.
Speaking during an interview on The Clarity Zone podcast, Bwala dismissed claims that Seyi’s involvement in politics is solely tied to his father’s influence. He argued that Seyi has carved his own path as a connector among young people across the country.
“If his father is president, what exactly stops Seyi Tinubu from running for governor of Lagos State? In fact, Seyi can even challenge his father in a presidential election,” Bwala stated.
He described Seyi as down-to-earth and approachable despite his privileged background as the son of a former Lagos governor and Nigeria’s current president. According to Bwala, Seyi has consistently supported young Nigerians, creating pathways for them to secure roles in government and offering opportunities that cut across political divides.
“At one point, he was even criticised for nominating people regarded as Obidients. That tells you clearly that he is not driven by bias,” Bwala explained.
Bwala further noted that his own criticisms of the Tinubu administration never strained his personal relationship with Seyi, stressing that the younger Tinubu has the maturity to separate politics from friendship. He also pointed out that unlike the children of many past leaders, Seyi Tinubu has managed to avoid scandals and public controversies.
“You will never find him attacking anyone on social media, even though his father faces some of the harshest criticism in recent history. Instead, Seyi has built strong personal ties, even with people who openly criticise this government,” Bwala added.
According to him, Nigerians should be able to see beyond family ties and recognise that Seyi Tinubu has demonstrated qualities that stand on their own merit.
