Nollywood star Yvonne Jegede has taken a swipe at Abuja-based preacher, Pastor Femi Lazarus of Light Nation Church, over a controversial remark he made about women’s menstrual cycles.
A viral video from one of Pastor Lazarus’ sermons stirred outrage online after he suggested that mood swings during menstruation were not biological but a reflection of a woman’s attitude. In his words, “You are not the first woman to see your period, so your menstruation is not the problem. I have never seen anywhere in the Bible any woman complain about menstrual pain. You are simply not a peaceful person.”
The statement sparked widespread backlash, especially from women who found his comments insensitive and dismissive of their lived experiences.
Reacting via her social media page, Yvonne Jegede called out the clergyman, urging him to stay away from subjects he knows nothing about. “Yesterday, I saw a trending video of a clergyman seemingly trivializing menstrual pain. If you’ve never experienced the hormonal changes women go through during their periods, ovulation, or pregnancy, please don’t make bold statements about things you haven’t experienced. Men, please be kind,” she wrote.
Her response has since gained massive support across social media, with many commending her for speaking up against what they described as tone-deaf and insensitive remarks.
